Give to the Commons
Shared Freedom calls its giving tradition the Commons — because freedom itself is a commons. Like clean air or a shared pasture, liberty is diminished when it is enclosed and enriched when it is tended. Our giving maintains the shared conditions of a free life.
Giving to the commons means funding what no one owns and everyone needs: independent journalism, civic education, legal defense for the targeted, public spaces, the unglamorous infrastructure of democracy. It means giving time to the meetings, the campaigns, the watchful presence that keeps power honest. The tradition insists that philanthropy never substitute for justice — we give to the commons and we work to make the commons unnecessary to beg for.
The order’s giving page carries the full teaching, the free workbook of commons-building practices, and the way to give financially — including the order’s giving product in the shop. Give to what belongs to everyone, including you.
The commons will not maintain itself. It is maintained by commoners — which is to say, by us.
