In Living Promise, FRE is understood through the covenantal economy: God provides, Israel shares, and the accounting is ultimately in heaven — but the community keeps honest books on earth meanwhile.
Earn FRE by study (Torah learned and taught), by worship (minyan kept, Shabbat honored), by justice (tzedakah given, the vulnerable defended), by memory (the festivals kept, the story told). Spend it on the community’s life — education, care for members, the work of tikkun olam. The ledger is open because the tradition has always insisted that communal funds bear communal scrutiny.
The order’s characteristic caution: no token replaces the mitzvah. FRE can track tzedakah but cannot be tzedakah; the righteousness is in the giving, not the recording. Use the tool; don’t worship it. The covenant is older than any blockchain and will outlast them all.
